Triple award winning experimental short film 'Sehnsucht' was made in 2004 in the city of Magdeburg and was Jamie McDine's first film produced in German. Fear not though, it does come with full English subtitles!
The film's fans include musician Ian Brown, who supplied the soundtrack for the film. He also particularly liked the way a few of his lyrics had been sneaked into the script of the film, which talks about destiny and circumstance, actions and consequences. The film was produced during a heavily Ian Brown inspired time, as Jamie was producing his official website and video interviews for the release of the outstanding 'Solarized' album. If you don't own it, buy it here!
'Sehnsucht', translates to 'Yearning', and picked up awards at film festivals in Germany and Siberia in 2004 and 2005. First was the Jugendvideopreis Sachsen-Anhalt Publikumspreis, followed by the Nachtcafé Short Film prize and finally it made the trip to the Murmansk Film Festival in Siberia.
Sehnsucht concentrates upon our main female character, played by Claudia Janke, as we watch her interaction with the others around her and hear her thoughts. The audio narrative of the film runs forwards, but the visual narrative runs backwards giving the viewer a whole new perspective upon their actions and the consequences they have. Confused? Check it out and all will become clear!
The film also stars Jerome Mullan and Thorsten Schultz, together with the voice of Katharina Peter, all from the English Theatre Company in Magdeburg, with the kind support and assistance of Kate Sturrock.
